69th BPSC Prelims Syllabus 2023
The Prelims exam is the first stage of the BPSC exam conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission. Prelims are the screening stage before the BPSC Mains. The marks obtained in Prelims will not be taken into consideration for the final merit list.

Important points to note regarding the 69th BPSC Syllabus (Prelims):
General Science:
The questions on General Science and Technology will be such a nature that they do not require subject specialization.
Questions on General Science will cover general appreciation and understanding of science, including matters of everyday observation and experience, as may be expected of a well-educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific discipline.
History:
In History, the emphasis will be on a broad general understanding of the subject in its social, economic, and political aspects. The candidates are expected to be familiar with the broad aspects of the history of Bihar.
Questions on the Indian National Movement will relate to the nature and character of the nineteenth-century resurgence, growth of nationalism, and attainment of Independence and candidates will be expected to answer questions on the role of Bihar in the freedom movement of India.
Geography:
In Geography, emphasis will be on the geography of India and Bihar. Questions on the Geography of India and Bihar will relate to the physical, social, and economic Geography of the country including the main features of Indian agricultural and natural resources.

BPSC Mains Syllabus (Updated)
Now, in the new exam pattern, the focus of the BPSC Mains Syllabus is to test the knowledge and understanding of General Studies. The Mains exam will consist of four papers:
- General Hindi,
- General Studies Paper 1
- General Studies Paper 2
- One Optional Subject (Qualifying in nature)
BPSC Mains Examination Compulsory Paper 01 – General Hindi(सामान्य हिन्दी)
The BPSC Mains Syllabus for Hindi is a compulsory paper that is qualifying and descriptive in nature.
The questions in this paper will be of the secondary level of the Bihar School Examination Board. In this test, the ability to express one’s feelings clearly and in a pure form in simple Hindi and the test of intuitive power will be understood.
इस पत्र में प्रश्न बिहार विद्यालय परीक्षा समिति के माध्यमिक (सेकेण्डरी) स्तर के होंगे। इस परीक्षा में सरल हिन्दी में अपने भावों को स्पष्टत: एवं शुद्ध-शुद्ध रूप में व्यक्त करने की क्षमता और सहज बोध शक्ति की जाँच समझी जायेगी।
The topics covered in the General Hindi paper are as follows:
- Essay (निबंध) – 30 Marks
- Grammar (व्याकरण) – 30 Marks [पर्यायवाची, अलंकार, विलोम, वर्तनी, तत्सम एवं तदभव, लिंग, कारक, आदि]
- Syntax (वाक्य विन्यास) – 25 Marks
- Summarisation (संक्षेपण) – 15 Marks
02. Syllabus for General Studies Paper – I
1. Modern History of India and Indian Culture.
- Modern History of India and Indian Culture, which includes the broad history of the country (with special reference to Bihar) from about the middle of the 19th century.
- The introduction and growth of Western education will be covered in questions on Bihar’s Modern History (including technical education).
- Bihar’s role in the freedom struggle of India.
- Santhal Uprising,
- 1857 in Bihar,
- Birsa Movement,
- Champaran Satyagraha
- Quit India Movement 1942.
- Knowledge of the chief features of Mauryan and Pal art.
- Patna Qulam painting
- Basic knowledge of Gandhi, Tagore and Nehru.
2. Current events of national and international importance.
3. Statistical analysis, graphs and diagrams:
The part relating to statistical analysis, graphs, and diagrams will include exercises to test the candidate’s ability to draw common sense conclusions from information presented in a statistical, graphical, or diagrammatical form and to point out deficiencies, limitations, or inconsistencies therein.
03. General Studies Paper- II
Questions in the GS Paper 2 of the BPSC Syllabus will test the understanding of Indian politics, with a focus on Bihar.
1. Indian Polity: Indian Polity, will include questions on the political system in India including Bihar.
2. Indian Economy and Geography of India: In this part pertaining to the Indian Economy and Geography of India, questions will be put on planning in India and the physical, economic and social geography of India and Bihar.
3. Science and Technology: The role and impact of science and technology in the development of India. Questions will be asked to test the candidate’s awareness of the role and impact of science and technology in India and Bihar’s Emphasis will be on applied aspects.
