Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award renamed as Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award
Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi today on August 6, 2021 announced that Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award will now be known as Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.
The highest honour in sports has been renamed in honour of Hockey legendary player Sh. Dhyan Chand.
Prime Minister also informed that the decision has been taken considering the sentiment of citizens across India.
The Khel Ratna award is the highest sporting honour of the country. The prestigious award carries a prize money of Rs 25 lakh.
